Sara Barbin
«I am an abstract artist from Italy, working across painting, photography, and collage. My art is a personal journey through deep emotion, memory, and transformation. I am moving back to Italy after 8 years in the UK.
My work is an ongoing exploration of emotion, rhythm, and visual harmony through abstraction. I am drawn to bold colour, layered texture, and the unpredictable nature of intuitive mark-making. Each piece begins without a fixed outcome—guided instead by feeling, gesture, and the spontaneous relationships that unfold on the canvas»

«Painting is both a creative act and a healing one. Through my process, I connect with something internal and often unspoken—a space where emotion, memory, and energy can be transformed into colour and form. Art, for me, is a way to process, to release, and to return to balance. It is soul work». (Sara Barbin).
1. What experiences, spaces, places, or concerns inspire you to create your work?
I’m drawn to its archetypes, symbols, and timeless stories of struggle, metamorphosis, and rebirth, usually from Greek mythology. These ancient narratives echo the emotional cycles we still live through today. They help me give form to the invisible—to longing, grief, strength, and healing. Flowers appear often in my work. For me, they are more than beautiful forms—they are symbols of emotional healing, rebirth, and the quiet courage it takes to grow after being broken. I paint them as something sacred, alive, and somehow hidden in a sea of colour. I get inspired by nature, the sea and the sky. Bold colour is how I speak. I use it to channel energy and feeling, to hold pain and joy in the same space. Texture is essential—I build layered surfaces that invite touch, where traces of the process remain visible, like emotional scars. I love to work with acrylic, gouache and watercolours, but I’m also like to draw and incorporate elements of that in my collages. Photography and collage allow me to work with fragments pieces of nature, memory, and found imagery.

2. Tell us about your artwork or series you are currently working on.
I’m currently working on some abstract pieces in acrylic, trying to incorporate some new elements from nature, like the moon, leaves, using new colours palettes and techniques. In the meantime I’m working on a project involving intuitive art workshops for adults and children.
Sara is an Italian abstract artist and a language educator whose work bursts with colour, texture, and emotion. Rooted in a deep appreciation for spontaneity and intuitive expression, her art explores the dynamic interplay of shape and colour. Her recent work delves into mixed media and collage, combining painted elements with paper layered textures. This shift marks a new chapter in her creative journey, blending structure and chaos to form striking compositions that invite viewers into a personal and often playful dialogue with abstraction. She continues to challenge herself and her audience through an ever-expanding visual language.
