SIM_Moby depicts “purgatory,” a place between heaven and hell, before birth/death. From he realization SIM_Moby had as a child, “Giving birth to a life is the same as giving birth o a death.” he explores and creates the free alternate space known as “SIM_Purgatory” where the law of life/death does not apply.
The reality-connected afterlife known as SIM_Purgatory is revealed in a variety of 2D landscapes by using current world concepts as motifs. In the immaterial media, SIM_Moby combines these themes with his own experience, Asian identity, monstrous form, and imagination from his previous lives. This purgatory world seeks an eternal utopia free of extinction, and in order to achieve this permanence, the first work began with physical materials and is completed digitally without physical destruction after scanning.
Images that start from physical materials and are completed digitally are transmitted through digital displays, or printed with various physical materials and summoned to the present world. SIM_Purgatory, which has physical properties due to printing, gives viewers an illusion that makes them wonder whether the piece was originally painted in oil or acrylic, or whether it was finished digitally before being printed. To achieve this, he uses his unique concept known as “SIM Moby (SAMSARA Erosion of Megabyte)”, which is defined as a conversion of the material’s texture into digital form.
