STATEMENT
Growing up in between a lot of different worlds and never quite sticking to one thing used
to feel chaotic and destabilizing to me. In these last years I learned that it is a beautiful thing to be able to look behind many curtains and learn about diverse realities and perspectives instead of just perfectly fitting into the given expectations.
Now I believe that the intersectionality I was and am exposed to and my wandering mind help me grow, change perspective, think critically and stay curious. In these two works I tried out new techniques and styles for the first time, always working on finding new paths and staying open and curious.
Amazonite is about experimenting with colour, giving up control, embracing play and dealing with given situations. The brush was attached to a long stick so I couldn’t be too perfectionistic about the placement of the paint. It’s also my first piece on a round background without any realistic depictions
Scats & Scraps is my first mixed media piece. It’s made out of different fragments that were supposed to be thrown out. They were practice paintings, unfinished experiments and brush cleaning surfaces and are a combination of different scraps that weren’t supposed to fit together. I wanted to create something new out of already existing materials that span over different years, moods and techniques.
